Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic Organ Prolapse & Pelvic Floor Therapy

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the pelvic organs, such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum, descend or bulge into the vaginal canal due to weakened or stretched pelvic floor muscles and connective tissues. This condition can lead to discomfort, pressure, or a feeling of heaviness in the pelvic region.

Pelvic floor therapy plays a crucial role in managing pelvic organ prolapse. The therapy focuses on strengthening the pelvic floor muscles to provide better support to the pelvic organs. Specific exercises, such as Kegels and targeted muscle training, help improve muscle tone, endurance, and coordination.

In addition to pelvic floor exercises, pelvic floor therapy may include other interventions like manual therapy, biofeedback, or the use of vaginal pessaries to support the prolapsed organs. These interventions aim to alleviate symptoms, improve pelvic floor muscle function, and potentially reduce the severity of the prolapse.

By working with our team of professionals specialized in pelvic floor therapy, individuals with pelvic organ prolapse can receive tailored treatment plans to manage symptoms, enhance pelvic floor support, and improve their overall quality of life.
